Magnus Carlsen and Ian Nepomniachtchi Crowned Co-Champions

The 2024 FIDE World Blitz Chess Championship in New York ended unconventionally when Magnus Carlsen and Ian Nepomniachtchi were named co-champions after three drawn sudden-death games. With no armageddon tiebreak option, Carlsen suggested sharing the title—a proposal FIDE approved despite anticipating controversy among players and fans.
Ju Wenjun Wins Women’s Blitz Title
Chinese Grandmaster Ju Wenjun claimed the 2024 Women's World Blitz Championship, edging compatriot Lei Tingjie 3.5-2.5 in the final.
Emotional Moment: Ivanchuk in Tears
The tournament also saw a deeply emotional moment when Ukrainian Grandmaster Vasyl Ivanchuk broke down in tears following a heartbreaking loss due to time pressure. In a crucial round against GM Daniel Naroditsky, Ivanchuk lost a winning position on time.
Ivanchuk finished the tournament in 66th place, with 7 points across 13 rounds.

💍 Magnus Carlsen Gets Married
Magnus Carlsen married Ella Victoria Malone shortly after the World Blitz Championship. The intimate ceremony in Oslo was attended by close friends, family, and prominent chess figures. The couple exchanged vows in a heartfelt celebration, with memorable moments captured in stunning photographs.
